"Wicca Club" on Glee?

I have a question for my pagan sisters...

I was watching the "Asian F" episode of Glee (aired 10/4), and in the final scene, next to the cast list, there was a poster on the bulletin board advertising a Wicca Club. At first, I thought this was awesome. I've long thought that the show needs religious diversity beyond Christianity, Judaism, and Atheism. But then I realized that the Wicca Club poster featured an inverted pentacle.

Now, I've heard that some Pagans/Wiccans feel that the inverted pentacle is just as valid as the upright pentacle. But it seems that everyone I've actually spoken to only associates with the upright pentacle, and that they feel the inverted pentacle is in some way unholy. I also know that it has, at least in the popular media, a strong connection to "Satanism" (not true Satanism, of course, but Satan/Devil worship), and that the general public sees the symbol as evil.

That leads me to wonder why the director/producer/set designer/whoever chose to use the symbol on the poster. Was it intentional, to further the association between Wicca and "Satanism"? Or was it simply ignorance on their part, not knowing the difference between the upright and the inverted pentacle?

Thoughts?

I'm guessing the set decorator didn't do their research.

I do only use an upright Pentacle.

Personaly I don't like the upsidey-down one, I feel dirty just looking at it :/

I'm extremely offended by the flyer. While in Sociology I did research on many religions, including Satanism. Some Satanists use both the upside down pentacle and cross, representing the opposite of Good. Seeing that on Glee shocked me. I really do hope they become aware of this and change the flyer.

I've been doing research to answer you question Wicca really uses this symbol which is used to do witchcraft to other people or in the ceremonies to worship satan this symbol and the Wicca really are related If you don't believe me do the research by your own also Wicca is related with satanism cuz they adore and/or worship satan the media is just trying to get us the viewers accustomed to see this symbols normals and put that on our subconscious but don't let them do that when you see a TV show be very cautions and take the good things but reject the bad things ;)

@melania- Wicca and Satanism are absolutely NOT related. First, Wiccans and other pagans do not even believe in "Satan," let alone worship him. Second, the religion of Satanism is actually about hedonism, or self-worship, not worshipping "Satan." As far as I know, the religion of Satanism doesn't recognize a devil-figure, either. Third, neither of these religions are evil. Wiccans are adamant about not bringing harm to others, and Satanists are concerned about bringing themselves pleasure and do not look to harm others, either.

Satan doesn't exist in Wicca as it is a Christian belief. Satanism is a religion based on worshiping one's self-not Satan.

I have a very close relation with an ex-Wicca she've told me what I said she also told me about the powers that have been gave to her when she was a Wicca

@melania- where exactly have you been doing your so-called research? You can read plenty of crap on the Internet that isn't true, and it sounds like your "friend" is either a liar or just as foolish and/or gullible as you.

It's stupid comments like yours that spread misconceptions, fear and hatred about Wicca and the various other Pagan religions.

The same thing happens with other religions too- I've yet to have met a Mormon that believes they came from aliens. I think it's about time we stop acting like children and spreading these stupid rumors.

I dont know one wiccan person using the up side down pentacle, it might be uses by some but, not by most. And even less wiccans (would i imagine) use it to do witchcraft 'too' other people.
And no one who claims to use it while doing devil worshipping ceremonies is wiccan. The up side Down pentacle and Wicca is really not related.
And you Said that if we dont believe you we should dó the research on your own... Well since we practiced the religion, maybe you should do some more research! Cause i really Think we know a little bit more about Wicca than you, no disrespect but your comments is rather.. Daft.
Wiccans do not worship nor adore satan, maybe some kinda witches but not wiccans, se do not believe in his existence.
And i dont know what your close relation ex-wiccan friend told you but if she worshipped satan she was not wiccan, for sure. And the poser she was talking about.. I havent herd of anything like that Before..?

And for the record I myself am Wiccan and I can tell you that I have never cast a spell on another, used magick to harm another and I have never used or worn an inverted pentacle. Neither have I worshiped Satan, sacrificed goats or performed a crazy sex right. I suggest that for your own sake that you get your facts right before you start to criticise.

@melanie, just the way you word it. Saying she was a wicca. That proves ethier she way lying or you made this up. One is not a Wicca, they are Wiccan.

The same poster is still present on the board over Rachel's shoulder while she is talking to Fin in the hallway in "S.3/Ep.8-The First Time". And it still has the inverted pentagram. This really does make me angry. Mostly because mainstream media has villianized as evil the inverted pentagram. It doesn't matter what it really means, it should not be used in this manner of context. I luv Glee but this is going too far. Either it is blatantly discriminant or blatantly ignorant however you cut it.

I agree with you DJN- I highly disbelieve that they "just didn't know any better". I think the screenwriters, set designers and definitely the producers put a lot of thought into what's shown in a tv show or movie- including what's put in the background. They have to do their research on what is/is not correct, appropriate, and accepted by their audiences if they want a good, well-received show. And things that can be easily interpreted as anti-religious, racist, sexist, etc... should simply not be included, just to prevent the backlash.

I can't help but feel that someone meant to display that pentagram. Seems too obvious and suspicious to be an accident or something to be blamed on "lack of knowledge"...
